Accomplishments

 

The Detroit Youth Choir has also been nominated for several awards and received numerous Certificates of Appreciation locally and internationally. Those awards include; 40 under 40 award from the Michigan Chronicle, Best in Black Award 2018, Texas Gospel Excellence Music Award 2018, The Spirit of Detroit Award, DMC Community Service Award, The Spirit of Memphis Award & the Mary McCloud Bethune Award for Community Service.  Our organization has also been featured on various media outlets such as Mix 92.3 with Frankie Darcell, Fox 2, WXYZ 7, WDIV 4, PBS Channel 56 and most recently the IMAX movie “America’s Musical Journey”. Recently, the Detroit Youth Choir opened for the “City Lab 2018” for Former New York City Mayor Bloomberg at the Famed Detroit Renaissance Center.

 

We are always in search of talented and creative youth to further promote and enhance our organization. Our organization provides mentorship, life skills, social skills, youth development and performance etiquette.

The Detroit Youth Choir with their style and grace over the years have produced a great number of college graduates, singers, producers, song writers, screen writers, rappers, American Idol finalist, Broadway stars, etc. DYC has maintained a 98% graduation rate over 20 years of serving the community through the arts.

Detroit Youth Choir has produced some of the best talent this world has to offer.  We have some great alumnus, for example: Daniel Valentine, a graduated of the Detroit Youth Choir and who is also a graduate of Central State University in Ohio. His favorite quote “DYC has changed my life” says Daniel Valentine as he speaks to the choir during a rehearsal. 

 

K’yera McClinic also a graduate of the Detroit Youth Choir also a graduate of Oakland University (Rochester Hills, MI) and now an elementary school teacher is one of our DYC success stories.

 

Amber Turnbull a graduate of DYC/Central State University is a scholar and one of the best altos that ever graced the stage with the Detroit Youth Choir.  Central State University/OH, Lane College/TN & Olivet College are our educational Partners in elevation of our young people in the College ranks.  The Detroit Youth Choir has 99% graduation rate since 1996.
